When individuals are first awarded Social Security benefits, the Social Security Administration (SSA) mails the recipient a benefit verification letter that details the amount of their benefit and Medicare premiums, if applicable. During the fourth quarter of each calendar year, after the cost of living increases have been announced, the SSA mails all recipients an updated benefits verification letter detailing the coming year’s benefits. Not everyone can locate these important documents when needed for income verifications such as when applying for a loan or other benefits.
Individuals can get a benefit verification letter online by going to the Social Security website below. In addition to their Social Security benefit, the benefit verification letter will provide their Medicare start date and premium withholding amount(s).
